Employment Specialist

  • Complete Discovery & Exploration for individuals entering Supported Employment
  • Develop job opportunities by connecting with employers and promoting DCO’s employment services
  • Assist participants with resumes, applications, interview preparation, and job matching
  • Provide on‑the‑job training, task analysis, and coaching to support skill development
  • Support non‑work skills such as communication, socialization, and workplace expectations
  • Collaborate with employers, VR counselors, support coordinators, and team members
  • Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly documentation
  • Provide Follow‑Along services once participants reach independence
  • Substitute for job coaches as needed

Essential Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to teach job tasks using task analysis and positive reinforcement
  • Professional, tactful interaction with employers, families, and participants
  • Ability to work independently and follow written or verbal instructions
  • Ability to maintain CPR/First Aid certification and follow all DCO policies

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in job coaching
  • Employment Training Specialist certification (or equivalent) when available
  • Class E driver’s license
  • Ability to pass background requirements; non‑smoking, drug‑free environment
